The original conversions surfaced after the conflict between the States ended in 1865. the new innovation for the time was "fixed cartridges". The Federal Government had stockpiles of old style weapons and wanted to change their inventory to this new innovation. The government converted Colt, Remington and Civil War Rifles to cartridge to update their arsenals. |
|
The capability available today, modern steel and technology, have contributed to R & D Gun Shop and Taylor's and Co., Inc. venture to build conversions again. Taylor offers a superior product that looks and functions in the same manner as the manufacturer's originals were built. |

| 1847 Walker |
|
The Legendary 1847 Walker is the most massive of all the Colt styled revolvers. Until the advent of the .357 S&W Magnum in 1935, the venerable Walker Colt was the ‘World’s Most Powerful Handgun’ Even today, a properly loaded Walker is nothing to scoff at! The Walker is the largest conversion cylinder we make and is chambered in 45 Colt. It will also take the .45 Schofield rounds and this massive revolver is a real pussy cat with the Black Hills 45 Schofield with the 180gr RNFP! Walker models were the pistols of choice of the Character ‘Josey Whales’ in Clint Eastwood’s ‘The Outlaw Josey Whales’. It was also the choice of ‘Gus’ in ‘Lonesome Dove’. The 84-U-DRAG is for the Uberti ‘Dragoon” revolvers and converts them to use 45 Colt or 45 Schofield ammunition. Though historically the Dragoons were ‘Horse Pistols’ and usually carried in pommel holsters on your saddle, many notable historic characters carried them as sidearms. “RIP” Ford, the famous early Texas Ranger carried a pair of them on his belt! Though large revolvers, they are well-balanced and fun to shoot, and are easily manage the 45 Colt cartridge with typical 'Cowboy Loads'. With the 45 Schofield round, they are really fun to shoot! The Conversion Cylinder has a full six round capacity and really catches the attention of your fellow shooters when it’s combined with the Uberti Dragoon. |

The 84-1860 series Conversions Cylinders, converts your Uberti or Pietta 1860 ‘Army’ steel frame style revolver to fire the venerable .45 Colt or .45 Schofield cartridges! The cylinder was engineered to have a five shot capacity, and to be able to use it in CAS competition, it was designed with 10 stop notches. The extra stop notches are the safety notches and lock the chambers out of the firing chain. The Conversions Cylinders were examined and approved for SASS use by the Territorial Governors. The 1860 Conversion Cylinders are also available with the authentic Naval Battle scene engraving. The 1860 Conversion Cylinders are to be used with either smokeless ‘Cowboy’ loads, such as the quality ammunition available from Black Hills Ammunition, or Black Powder 45 Colt/Schofield ammunition. One of the easiest shooting loads in the 1860 Army is the Black Hills 45 Schofield with the 180gr. RNFP bullet. |
